the dark and dreary road.

this last weekend i had the great joy of being able to spend some fantastic time with my dear friends abby and alayna.  they bless my life with their creative endeavors and artistic hearts.  on sunday, alayna and i were able to make a drive up some harrowing roads that were not only enamored with hairpin turns but hundreds of bikers as well.  let me tell you, it was an adventure.  but colors and textures abounded and that i love.

these last two images were shot with intention of color manipulation.  for my project i needed to shoot them with the wrong white balance, on purpose, so i decided to use those color filters to the best of my ability.

so i've recently moved.  again.  and am now living in portland, or.  through the goodness of the lord i ended up living with this awesome girl who is not only gorgeous, but is in full participation of me taking pictures of her.  you have no idea how much easier this makes my life.  so be prepared to see much of her lovely face.  and yes, she is just as wonderful as she is beautiful.

my sweet jenny and jay.  i feel so blessed to have been able to watch this couple sprout from day one (mostly).  funny enough i can remember their first date, jenn's first flowers, and all sorts of other things.  no i'm not a creeper.  i lived with jenny for a year and  half in some of the best times i remember.  this christmas i was able to shoot some engagement pictures for them.  given jay's busy travel schedule and my great ability to move across states, we kept waiting for good weather and the perfect days but eventually we just ran out of time.  luckily they are a good enough looking couple that they pull off foggy muck (which we so affectionately deemed that day) quite well.

mundane made magical

these are by far some of my most favorite photographs.  i'm still not entirely sure why yet but there is something about the simplicity of them that i love.  i feel as though it takes something mundane and turns it into something more mystical.  there is a beauty that lies within the lack of complexity and the minute details.  when i see them, i want to be where they are.  especially the top two.  this may be weird considering its my blog and i took them, but when i see them i don't envision the place they were, i envision something better, something grander, something worth imagining.

the beauty of the world is often passed by.  we move so quickly that indeed we forget to take the time to look and to see.  we did an assignment that involved capturing photographs as they did during the pictorialist era.  it was a dreamy time in which things moved slower then they do today.  in trying to capture this project i decided to slow down myself.  to be patient.  to sit and to wait.  and through this i feel as though i began to see people and catch moments that i would have missed otherwise.
